Wounds in patients with diabetes mellitus, especially diabetic foot ulcers, are more difficult to heal than normal wounds and can easily deteriorate, leading to amputation. Common treatments cannot heal diabetic wounds or control the complications. Growth factors play an important regulatory role in the complex diabetic wound healing process. Different growth factors play different roles in diabetic wound healing, which means that treatments that modulate different growth factors to adapt to wound healing can significantly improve the treatment of diabetic wounds. This article reviews the specific roles of these growth factors in the healing process of non-diabetic and diabetic wounds.
